50cc quads are those all-terrain vehicles outfitted with a 50cc power engine. Another name for the quad bike is the ATV. Engines of these vehicles range from the 49cc to the 1000cc, with 49cc having the less power. There are 50cc quads with two wheels, with three wheels, and with four wheels. There are even special 6-wheeled and 8-wheeled quad bikes.
Generally, 50cc quads are kids ATV bikes. They are recreational bikes for children. The 50cc quads, since they were invented, have provided a different type of fun activity for kids of all ages. The safest of these is the 4-wheeled kind. These designs provide the best balance.
There are also other quad bikes with different purposes. Utility ATVs are used on farms and for a range of other off-road work. Sports ATVs are used for racing and competition purposes. Then there are the amphibious ATVs that can run on land and in water. These are the bigger versions of the 50cc quads; the ones with the more powerful engines.
50cc quads and other ATVs can be outfitted with special kinds of tires and wheels for different trail conditions. There is a range of racing tires, mud tires, sand tires, and all-terrain trail tires. Changing tires to fit a terrain make an ATV perform better in the type of environment it is used in. It is actually safer if the tire is suited to the terrain.
For maximum safety and enjoyment, there are a few safety rules that riders of the 50cc quads must abide by. These common safety rules are:
- Read the manual. The manual that comes with the ATV is required reading for owners of 50cc quads, or their parents.
- Familiarize yourself with the machine. Before going for a ride, you must know where the gears are located. Before turning the machine on, you must be sure that you are able to quickly operate any part of the vehicle instinctively.
- Check you tires and other equipment before going for a ride. Any gear parts showing signs of wear and tear should be immediately replaced.
- Always wear protective gear when riding the 50cc quads. These safety gears include suits, helmets, goggles, gloves, boots, and padding.
- Know the rules of ATV driving. Appropriate behavior must be followed when on the vehicle. That is, no speeding, no driving on roads and streets, no stunts.
- Some states offer safety courses for new owners. Take this course. It might even be required in your area.
As long as you follow all these safety measures, the 50cc ATV four-wheeler will give you or your child hours of outdoor fun and enjoyment. It is an alternative kind of fun, different from the indoor activities that most kids are used to today. 50cc quads might even introduce you and your child to the sporting life, with motocross and all-terrain trail racing and the like.
As your child turns into an adolescent, and then a grown-up, the skills that he picks up as he is having fun driving and operating his own quad bike, will serve him well.
